Apparently, I have unwittingly become a breeder of Mickey Mouse Platys. They are enormously hardy fish which remind me a great deal of Comet (feeder) goldfish, except that they had these distinctive black Mickey Head silhouettes on their tails. I can tell you with authority that they are not in any way "painted" -- the spots develop on the young fish as they grow and are not apparent at all on small fry.
I'm going to have to start giving them away. Note to anyone who wants Mickey Mouse Platys -- when you go to buy them, the big round ones are females, and probably already pregnant. The smaller ones with a pointy anal fin are males. Two pregnant platys and one male = a tank population of 30 platys in no time.
